I was brought in by Barrowfull to document this project and get aerial photographs from above of the finished poem.
Poetry on the pitch was supported by Barrow AFC – as part of BarrowFull’s Barrow Dreams, a project exploring the past, present and future dreams of people in Barrow.
Barrow Dreams: Present, was a project with recent Commonwealth boxing champion and former Birmingham Young Poet Laureate Matt Windle who worked with men in Barrow over a number of months in 2024, who shared their stories and created poetry for this project.
Matt said “I quickly learnt that Barrovians are rightfully proud of where they are from and this project allows them to show that off… One of the things I’m a huge advocate and supporter of is to give men a platform and feel confident. Poetry can sometimes seem ‘arty’ and for the privileged – but I’m a completely ordinary person, and I’d like other ordinary men to know that the arts and culture can be for regular people.”
