Virtual tours are an excellent way of exploring and interacting with the landscapes owned by the Friends of the Lake District. This can prepare you for visiting in person or replace the experience if it is not possible for you to visit. You can choose what order you wish to explore the points of interest. I get tremendous enjoyment from putting these tours together.
Greenbank Wood is very small wood, on the edge of Ambleside, and owned by Friends of the Lake District since 2012. It does boast some beautiful and impressive mature beech trees. It doesn’t have a circular route, just an ancient path up the middle. On the day I visited to create this virtual tour there was a deer running back and forth along the top edge trying to avoid me. I visited in May and was greeted at the entrance by a good display of bluebells. It is not far from another wood owned by the Friends of the Lake District – Sweden Wood.
