It was an exciting prospect to return to Dumfries & Galloway to produce some aerial promotional films. It was also a challenge to capture the footage I would need at four different holiday parks belonging to Gillespie Leisure in one go. The solution was to book a cottage for a week and hope there would be enough good weather to get the job done.
As it turned out, it was an absolutely glorious week of blue skies and next to no wind. I was able to get footage in the mornings, afternoons and evenings. Three of the four sites were on the coast, the fourth was near a tidal river, and I was able to film at both high and low tides. In addition, my wife and I were able to enjoy some of the days travelling around. The whole county is a wonderful place to visit and explore.
Kippford View
Kippford View Holiday Park (formerly Barlochan Holiday Park) is on a hillside not far from Dalbeattie, back from the coast but overlooking Urr Water. It is relatively small, the caravans are spread out between trees and there is an impressive swimming pool.
Brighouse Bay
Brighouse Bay Holiday Park has everything you could wish for. It is right alongside the beach at Brighouse Bay and there are opportunities for all sorts of activities. It has its own golf course with resident professional, swimming pool and pony trekking centre and much, much more. There are extensive woods and an impressive rocky coastline, but also you are not far from the town of Kirkcudbright.
Sandyhills Bay
Sandyhills Bay Holiday Park is a truly wonderful coastal location, nestled behind a rocky headland and yet mere steps away from a wonderful bay and beach.
Seaward
Seaward Holiday Park is a very short drive from Kirkcudbright and looks across to St Marys Isle and out over Kirkcudbright Bay. It has an outdoor swimming pool and is not far from the beach at The Dhoon.
