This restoration, completed as part of the Heritage Lottery funded Conserving Coniston & Crake project, has been a great success on a number of levels. with additional tree planting, the installation of artwork and the creation of a new weir as well as the redirecting of the stream. Atlantic Salmon return to spawn in many of the becks in the area but, due to this beck previously having been redirected towards a mill with the addition of a weir, getting upstream had been made almost impossible for these fish. The re-routing of the river during July/August 2019 should solve the problem and it will be exciting to monitor this to see how successful the work has been. A big thanks to Mike West and Kath Smith on this one.
Here are plan views of the beck before and during the restoration work, and below them a short before and after video from 2019 showing the progress on the beck.
