Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust approached me at the start of 2022 hoping I could provide some aerial shots to be added to two films that they had commissioned as part of their Together for Trees project. I was delighted to oblige, as it gave me the opportunity to visit Malham Cove and Gordale Scar on two beautiful days in March. The footage was to compliment two modern myths conjured up by oral storyteller Danny English of We Be Kids. I met up with Danny on my first visit to find out more about what kind of clips he was looking for. Getting permission to fly at the National Trust sites was not straihhtforward but thankfully it got done and the two resulting films that Danny edited can be seen above. The Mother Tree of Malham Cove and The Falcon and the Giant’s Heart are creation myths that each tell a tale of how the barren karst landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales came to be.
